The Breathing Earth offers a visualization of compressed earthquake data. Data is included from earthquakes that have occurred worldwide in the past 14 days. The contents take the form of a WWW site filmed with time-lapsed photography.
Data about the earth's seismic activity is collected from the International Data Center, adjusted to remove 'noise', and then visualized as a series of eruptions on the face of the earth. These visualizations are available for 1998.

Despite our scientific progress, it is fascinating to be witness to nature's raw energies, be it as earthquakes, storms, lightning and so on. I also found the visualization of the data done here to be very expressive: it is amazing to think so much of seismic activity is going on right beneath us all the time.
