Mori
is an internet-based earthwork that engages the earth as a living
medium.
Mori displays streaming seismographic data measured continuously
from a site near the Hayward Fault above University of
California at Berkeley. This data
is then converted to digital signals, transmitted over the internet to
the an acoustic installation.
Mori is interesting
to me as it is fascinating to feel the earth's vibrations up close. Here
is an artwork that
is measuring the earth's heart beats , and
very much like an ECG. The resulting installation, with its deep resonating
sounds strikes awe for nature's raw power.
