lab2 documentation : DNA amplification

Special thanks to Rebecca Budinoff and Warren Weaver.
from the Comparative Genetics Laboratory American Museum of Natural History

DNA amplification:

the previously extracted DNA is prepared for PCR amplification

the small white balls in the tubes create the necessary environment for the amplification.

first add pure water

primers targeting specific sections of the gene, where it is know to show unique species information

QT movie of the process: primers (18MB)

the DNA goes in last to prevent any contamination of primers

amplification machines, heat and cool the mixture the get the primers to adhere to the dna strand in the correct area of the gene.

next step DNA sequencing
