Washing Machine Review
Approaching a washing machine
I was interested to see how much washing clothes involves. After finally figuring out the combo lock on the laundry room door, the washing machines were lined up next to each other and the opening for clothes stood about 30 inches tall. In order for a person to get their clothes inside dropping the clothes might not be an option if you're in a wheelchair.
Time to get coins
If the change machine is operating properly it will dispense quarters. A person must be able to grab a dollar bill and slide it into a feeding device that will pull the bill into the machine. The coin machine requires the bill to be in the correct before feeding, a person with bad vision will be unable to do this easily.
Retrieving the coins
Hand-eye coordination + ability to grasp objects. The coin tray is practical so coins do not drop to the floor but it is almost impossible to retrieve a coin if the use or feeling of your fingers is gone.
Placing clothes into machine
The opening to deposit clothes is horizontal to the floor and about 30 inches above the ground. If a person who has a problem bending and reaching this operation will be difficult - but not as hard as getting the clothes out.
Selecting proper wash cycle
This small knob must be grasped and turned to select the appropriate wash cycle. Use of fingers and wrist is required for normal use.
Inserting coins into machine
Hand-eye coordination to hold onto coins and place them into a tiny slot
Pushind in coin tray
This is hard for me
Add the tide
Tide is heavy really using the wrist to open and handle this bottle
Pulling clothes out
Person must be able to reach over the side of machine and into opening to pull wet and heavy clothes out.
