Project Interests:
I am interested in exploring existing software and eventually developing software for children at the NY Foundling Hospital. I was inspired by past ITP projects and the use of the switch as a bridge to interface with toys and computers during our visit last week and I would like to explore this idea in greater depth. I feel that much can be done with software for learning and enhancing the social environment. I also believe that there is more room to rethink the current switch interfaces that are available on the market. After speaking with staff at the hospital they seemed to like using the switches they had; however, in a lot of cases the one-button interfaces were still difficult to use because of the limited mobility of the patients. How can we make the switch more accessible and more functional? Also, how can we use software to teach and/or network peer to peer for children with disabilities.
